Washington and Kiev will not sign an 800 billion dollar agreement on the post-war reconstruction of Ukraine at the World Economic Forum in Davos, as previously planned, a Ukrainian source told Axios. According to the source, the Presidents of the USA and Ukraine, Donald Trump and Volodimir Zelenski, were supposed to sign the document, but the meeting between the two leaders, where the signing was supposed to take place, was cancelled.

At the same time, an American source told the publication that no dates for the signing of the agreement had been set, and the plan itself still requires refinements. The source added that Trump could still meet with Zelenski and several European leaders in Davos, but no progress should be expected from their discussions. For his part, the Ukrainian president said he would stay in Kiev to organize a meeting on restoring electricity and heating supply in several regions of the country, following the latest Russian attack. Zelenski mentioned that the “economic prosperity plan” and security guarantees are crucial, but he is willing to travel to Davos only if all documents are ready. He stated that a possible meeting with Trump should lead to a concrete result that strengthens Ukraine and ends the war.
At the end of December, Kiev unveiled an “economic prosperity plan”, emphasizing that it was necessary for the “restoration and revival of life in Ukraine”. The plan envisages an investment of 800 billion dollars over a period of 10 years after the end of the war. This amount is approximately four times larger than Ukraine’s pre-war GDP. Kiev also hopes that the agreement will help attract private investment in the country.
