A woman with dual citizenship, German and Ukrainian, was arrested on Wednesday in Berlin, on the basis of a warrant issued by the investigating judge of the Federal Court of Justice, suspected of acting as an agent of the Russian secret services, announced the German Federal Prosecutor’s Office, quoted by EFE, reports Agerpres.
The suspect, identified as Ilona W., was detained by agents of the Criminal Investigation Bureau, who carried out searches at her residence in Brandenburg (east), as well as at properties in Rhineland-Palatinate (west) and Munich (south), connected to two other suspects still at large.
According to a statement from the German Federal Prosecutor’s Office, the woman is accused of acting in favor of a foreign espionage service, based on Article 99 paragraph (1) of the German Penal Code, referring to “the activity of secret agents”.
Specifically, investigators claim that, starting from November 2023, she would have had contacts with a person from the Russian Embassy in Berlin, who works for one of Moscow’s intelligence services.
Beyond information related to the war in Ukraine, the alleged spy is said to have transmitted data about participants at high-level political events, locations of the German defense industry, drone tests, and the plans of the Berlin authorities regarding the delivery of drones to Kiev.
