President Donald Trump announced on Wednesday, January 28, that a “massive armada” is heading towards Iran, larger than the one sent to Venezuela. On Tuesday, the nuclear aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln was dispatched to the Middle East.
Iran’s foreign minister, Abbas Araghchi, stated that diplomacy combined with military threats “is neither efficient nor useful,” in response to Trump’s threatening remarks, reports Agerpres.
According to the Irna news agency, Araghchi said that the United States should abandon threats and “illogical demands” if they wish to engage in negotiations.
“It is unacceptable and cannot be called diplomacy if one side tries to achieve its objectives by force,” he added.
Also on Wednesday, the Iranian government declared that it considers a military confrontation more likely than a negotiation with the US after a period of escalating tensions due to President Donald Trump’s decision to send a fleet to the region.
