At least 15 people died on Sunday, February 1, after a Russian drone struck a bus carrying civilian miners in the city of Ternivka, in the Ukrainian region of Dnipropetrovsk. The attack is part of a large-scale aerial offensive launched by Russia against Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, reports Kyiv Independent.

According to DTEK, the largest private energy company in Ukraine, the bus was carrying miners who had finished their work shift. As a result of the attack, 15 people were killed, and another seven were injured.

“The bus was carrying mining workers – civilians who were not involved in the fight. This is yet another brutal attack with victims, just for today,” stated Dmytro Lubinets, the Ukrainian Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights.

The attack on the bus took place in the context of repeated strikes on mines operated by DTEK, with Russia once again targeting the Ukrainian energy sector, already severely affected by bombings in recent months.

On the same day, Russian forces launched two attacks on the city of Zaporizhia, in southern Ukraine. At least nine people were injured, including a child. One of the attacks targeted a maternity ward, according to Ukrainian authorities.
