Kim Jong Un has inaugurated a district in Pyongyang dedicated to North Korean soldiers who fought in the Kursk region of Russia. This refers to the military personnel sent by the authoritarian regime to support the Russian armed forces, following the war in Ukraine and operations carried out by troops subordinate to Kiev in the border regions.
One of the streets in the new residential district was named Saebyeol or “New Star”, reports Realitatea. At the same time, monuments were inaugurated to commemorate the fallen soldiers, and the keys to the houses were handed over to their families.
“The completion of the street named Saebyeol, which has found a place in the hearts of the citizens as a symbol of the bright life of the fighters, is an emotional moment that inscribes in the history of Pyongyang the most heroic era, embodying the power, greatness, dignity, and honor of Korea,” Kim Jong Un told the crowd.
Previously, the Russian Foreign Minister, Sergey Lavrov, expressed gratitude to the North Koreans for the assistance provided “in liberating the Kursk region from Ukrainian militants.” The head of the Russian Foreign Ministry also promised that “the military fraternity between Moscow and Pyongyang will be materialized in mutually beneficial cooperation projects, for the benefit of the peoples of both countries.”
