The United States Army warns that the enormous volume of information generated on the modern battlefield far exceeds human analytical capacity, hence the development of advanced artificial intelligence systems has become essential. The conclusion comes after the “Dynamic Front” exercise, recently carried out in Europe alongside NATO allies, according to Business Insider.

Colonel Jeff Pickler, commander of the Second Multi-Domain Force, points out that the army has invested years in sensors and connected systems, but now faces a side effect: a data avalanche impossible to process in a timely manner by analysts.

“The battlefield is full of sensors, and we are drowning in data. There are not enough people who can interpret everything we receive,” the colonel explained.

Military AI: fast, but especially able to keep context

During the exercise, the military tested an internally developed artificial intelligence system capable of collecting and sorting information from multiple sources. The advantage is not just speed, but the AI’s ability to retain connections and patterns that people might overlook.

Jeff Pickle gave an example: AI can correlate a maritime transport report, a local power outage, and a fertilizer delivery, interpreting them as clues to the preparation for fueling rockets.

“The difference is not between seconds and minutes, but between minutes and months. Not because the AI scans faster, but because it can keep the context that people cannot remember,” the colonel explained.
