Vitali Iancovskii, the representative of the so-called South Ossetia republic in the Transnistrian region, was not authorized access to the territory of the Republic of Moldova. The purported official from the self-proclaimed region of Georgia has been banned from entering for 5 years.

The Border Police clarified for IPN that, following checks, Iancovskii was declared an undesirable person, in accordance with the Law on the regime of foreigners in the country.

According to data from the websites of the authorities on the left bank of the Dniester, Vitali Iancovskii was appointed to this position on April 10, 2017. Previously, he had held several roles within the administration in Tiraspol.

South Ossetia is a separatist region in Georgia, which declared itself independent in December 1991. It is recognized only by the Russian Federation, Nicaragua, Venezuela, Nauru, and Syria. Since 2006, South Ossetia and the Transnistrian region recognize each other as independent states.
