The Russian authorities’ campaign to “legalize” imports in order to increase budget revenues has affected goods deliveries to Russia. Independent importers report problems with the importation of clothing, footwear, and gadgets from well-known brands into the country.

Regulatory authorities are widely withdrawing certificates and declarations of conformity for products brought in through parallel import, that is, without the consent of the rights holder. These documents are necessary for the marketing of many goods – from toys and children’s clothing to computers, auto parts, and industrial equipment.

Deputy Prime Minister Aleksei Overciuk warned that Russia will strictly protect the domestic market from imports considered unfair, including those that arrive in the country through the member states of the Eurasian Economic Union.

According to him, combating “gray certificates” issued in the EAEU states without adequate checks is one of the protection methods, along with the introduction of additional transaction control systems and intensifying border checks.
