The UK Secretary of Defense, John Healey, wrote on Sunday, February 22, in the Sunday Telegraph, that he wants to send British troops to Ukraine, considering that this gesture would signal the end of the war with Russia.

“There is no greater burden for any Secretary of Defense or any government than to send the armed forces into operations. I want to be the Secretary of Defense who sends British troops to Ukraine – because this will mean that this war has finally ended.

It will mean that we have negotiated peace in Ukraine. And a secure Europe needs a strong and sovereign Ukraine,” Healey wrote, according to The Guardian.

European leaders declared in December that Europe is ready to lead a “multinational force” in Ukraine, as part of an American proposal for a peace agreement, which so far seems difficult to achieve due to Moscow’s maximalist position.

The leaders of the UK, France, Germany, and eight other European states have stated that troops from a “coalition of the willing”, with US support, could “assist in rebuilding Ukrainian forces, securing Ukraine’s sky, and supporting maritime safety, including through operations on Ukrainian territory.”
