The Logistics Commander of the Ukrainian Air Forces and the head of a regional Directorate of the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) were detained on Wednesday for embezzling funds from the budget allocated for the construction of aircraft shelters, announced Ukrainian Prosecutor General Ruslan Kravchenko, according to The Kyiv Independent.
The suspects in the embezzlement scheme were caught “red-handed” while trying to illegally transfer the money, and $320,000 were confiscated from them, according to Kravchenko.
While Kravchenko refrained from identifying the officers, the Ukrainian news agency Ukrainska Pravda reported, citing its own sources, that Andrii Ukrainets, the Logistics Commander of the Air Forces, and Volodymyr Kompanichenko, the head of the SBU Directorate in the Zhytomyr region, were detained.
Kravchenko stated that the state had allocated over $32 million for the construction of prefabricated arch structures through a decision in May 2025 to protect aviation, but the Military Counterintelligence Department of the SBU found “significant violations” during inspections.
