A ship from the so-called “ghost fleet” of Russia was intercepted by the Belgian Special Forces and is set to be confiscated, announced the authorities in Brussels on Sunday, according to AFP.
Belgian Deputy Prime Minister Maxime Prévot specified on platform X that the ship was intercepted in the North Sea and will be brought into port for confiscation.
Belgian Defense Minister, Theo Francken, added that the tanker is being escorted to Zeebruges, where legal measures will be applied.
Belgian authorities have not provided additional details about the crew or the nature of the cargo, but the interception is part of a series of international actions against the Russian “ghost fleet”, suspected of illegal transports and operations under controversial circumstances.
