Vladislav Surkov, former adviser to Putin and one of the authors of the concept of the “Russian world”, is said to have fled Russia due to investigations related to his role in Donbas. Surkov coordinated the Kremlin’s policy towards Ukraine between 2013 and 2020 and supported the creation of the self-proclaimed LPR and DPR – Donetsk and Lugansk republics, occupied by Russians.
According to reports, Surkov hastily left Russia for a country without an extradition treaty with Moscow, possibly the United Arab Emirates or Latin America.
His departure is said to be related to information about materials prepared by Russian authorities, which could form the basis of a criminal case for embezzlement of funds allocated by the Kremlin for the occupation of Donbas between 2014 and 2020, according to Dialog.
“Surkov hastily left the Russian Federation. The reason was information about prepared materials, which could form the basis of a criminal case. Security forces were given the green light to develop cases related to the surveillance of the Ukrainian direction,” wrote channel Z.
Vladislav Surkov, who was Putin’s assistant between 2013 and 2020, officially oversaw policy towards Ukraine, including the occupation of Crimea and regions of Donbas.
During that period, he coordinated and supported the formation of the self-proclaimed LPR and DPR – Donetsk and Lugansk republics occupied by Russians in eastern Ukraine – effectively controlling these territories. He also was the Kremlin’s key negotiator in the so-called “Minsk process”.
“Surkov has become one of the victims of his creation,” notes channel Z, which states that the departure of the former official coincides with a new wave of purges among the elites and old officials in Russia, responsible for forming the ideology of the “Russian world”.
After 2020, Surkov fell into disgrace and effectively disappeared, absent from public life. Currently, unofficial sources say that the former adviser could soon be put on the wanted list. It is important to note that Surkov was internationally sanctioned for his role in the Russian hybrid aggression against Ukraine.
