Russian citizens, both those with moderate orientations and nationalists, increasingly perceive President Vladimir Putin as a weak leader and too lenient in the face of the aggressiveness of American President Donald Trump. The perception is confirmed by a poll released on Wednesday and fueled by the stalemate on the Ukrainian front and Russia’s anemic reactions to US actions against its allies, namely Iran, where Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was killed in American-Israeli bombings, or Venezuela, where President Nicolas Maduro was captured by an American commando, reports the EFE agency, quoted by Agerpres.

According to the survey conducted by the sociological research company VTSIOM, only 32.1% of the Russian citizens surveyed indicated Putin as the politician they wish to entrust with the management of the main activities of the State. Although he still has the highest score, with Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov in second place, this percentage obtained by the Kremlin leader is the smallest in similar polls since he ordered the invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.

Through his prolonged disappearances from the public space and weak reactions to major international developments lately, Putin has caused this decline in popularity himself.
