The Russian leader, Vladimir Putin, is reportedly willing to isolate a large area of a famous Russian resort on the Black Sea to build a new high-security residential complex, according to security plans leaked to the press.

The documents indicate that a former residence in Sochi is being rebuilt and transformed into a modern palace, equipped with bunkers and surrounded by a large restricted area. The information was reported by independent Russian publications.

The old presidential residence, Bociarov Rucei, was demolished to make way for the new complex, amid reports that the Kremlin leader considered the property too vulnerable.

The independent publication Proekt claims that the decision was influenced by fears of possible Ukrainian drone attacks on residences along the Black Sea coast. According to the same source, people close to the Russian leader confirmed that he is hesitant to travel to the south of the country.

“Isolation zones” of approximately 3 square kilometers around the Sochi complex

Security plans, also cited by the publication Agentsvo, provide for the establishment of an “isolation zone” of approximately 3 square kilometers around the complex in Sochi.

Within this zone, activities or objects considered potentially dangerous, including drones, shooting clubs or paintball fields, would be banned. The measures were reportedly requested by the Federal Protective Service, the institution responsible for protecting the Russian leader.
