In addition to the difficulties related to the import of luxury goods into Russia, the war against Iran and the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz could cause disruptions in the delivery of essential components for civil aviation, which is already affected by sanctions and failures of import substitution policies.

According to information appeared in the Russian press, this primarily concerns consumable parts for aircraft. Until the escalation of the conflict with Iran, Russian airlines managed to obtain these components through “gray” schemes, especially via Dubai, but the situation would have significantly deteriorated, and carriers are forced to look for alternative routes through China and Central Asian countries.

Also, the maintenance of engines of some aircraft of Russian companies, which was carried out in Iran, would have been affected. In parallel, technical problems related to engines are worsening.

At the charter company Azur Air, one of the largest in Russia, several incidents, including engine failures and fires, have been recorded since the beginning of the year.

In this context, the Federal Agency for Air Transport (Rosaviatsia) has limited the validity of the company’s operating certificate until June 8, 2026, and warned that it could be withdrawn if the problems are not remedied.
