The governor of the Belgorod region, Vladimir Gladkov, admitted that in the region, “quite often” people die who have not been able to learn about the attacks of the Ukrainian army due to internet outages. The statement was made during a live broadcast on social networks, including Telegram, whose operation is limited by the authorities.
One of the followers asked the governor who will be responsible for the death of the inhabitants of Belgorod who, left without the internet, were surprised by drone attacks: “The white list doesn’t work even halfway, the drones keep flying, they are not affected at all”.
Gladkov responded that he “absolutely agrees with the grievances”.
“For the inhabitants of the border areas, the lack of information represents an even greater threat, which unfortunately often leads to deaths, injuries and destructions,” he said.
According to the governor, the situation related to the blocking of the internet is “extremely complicated” and is found at the national level, being justified by the attacks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
He specified that on March 19 he discussed the problem of mobile internet outages with federal authorities and power structures, emphasizing that a “compromise solution” is being sought, which however “will not be simple”.
“Our task is for Max messaging to work and all alert systems to function. We will work in this direction. We are heard, we are listened to and solutions are being sought,” added the governor.
