At the end of 2025, Russia fell to 79th place out of 147 in the international happiness ranking, compiled by experts from the United Nations Organization and the research center Gallup.
After losing 13 positions in a single year, Russia recorded the second worst result in the last 11 years (only worse in 2021) and ranked at the same level as countries such as Venezuela (80th place), Libya (81st place) and Bolivia (78th place).
According to the authors of the ranking, the most problematic situation in Russia is related to fundamental freedoms. In this sub-ranking, Russia is in 112th place — below Gambia (108) and Somalia (103), but slightly above Lesotho (113) and Myanmar (117).
