“A period of demilitarization, deoligarchization, and democratization is needed on the left bank of the Dniester. We all know this, it’s nothing new. And this process cannot happen in two days,” stated the President of the Republic of Moldova, Maia Sandu, referring to the prospects of reintegrating the Transnistrian region.
The head of state thus commented on the document that recently appeared in the public space, which targets approaches to the gradual reintegration of the region, reports realitatea.md. According to the president, the initiative is in an early stage and depends on the involvement of external partners.
“This idea of the Government comes precisely to solve the problem during the period of demilitarization, democratization, deoligarchization. It’s at an early stage of discussion with the European Union, because it’s clear that we need to have the commitment of the partners,” Maia Sandu conveyed.
The official believes that discussions can only advance after there are clearer commitments from development partners.
“And when we will have a more substantial discussion and a possible commitment from our partners, then, obviously, we will discuss further. I don’t think the regime in Tiraspol has much choice, because we see what’s happening with the citizens there, those people need to eat, they need to heat their apartments, they need to have where to take their children to kindergarten and school. They need normal living conditions. The moment when the regime in Tiraspol can no longer provide these conditions, obviously they need to look for other solutions. The solution comes from the European Union,” concluded the head of state.
Recently, a supposed plan for the country’s integration appeared in the public space. Deputy Prime Minister Valeriu Chiveri confirmed the authenticity of the document, but mentioned that it is a no-paper, to present the vision on solving the problem and to be able to discuss the approach with partners.
