Iran warned on Wednesday that it could extend the conflict in the Red Sea, launching attacks on a second essential maritime route for oil transport, the Bab al-Mandab Strait, in response to a possible American invasion of Kharg Island, according to a military source.
An official, who wished to remain anonymous, told the Tasnim news agency, close to the Iranian state, that Tehran could open a new front in this area, where Houthi rebels, supported by Iran, have previously carried out attacks.
Houthi leader, Abdul-Malik al-Houthi, has already conveyed that the group is prepared to enter into conflict, stating that “all military options are possible”, while expressing his support for Iran, Lebanon, and Palestine, according to the Daily Mail.
At the same time, Iran claims to be hunting American soldiers who may be hiding in various areas of the Middle East, following drone and missile attacks on US military bases, according to press reports.
The spokesman for the Iranian army, Ebrahim Zolfaqari, appealed to the population of the Gulf states to report the places where they might be hiding and to demand their expulsion.
“Considering that all American bases in the region have been destroyed, American commanders and soldiers have fled and taken refuge in hideouts outside the bases, and we are looking for them”, Zolfaqari would have declared, according to the Iranian press.
