The authorities in Russia have officially allowed the construction of wooden residential blocks up to five stories high, according to the first set of fire safety rules for such constructions, developed by the Russian Ministry for Emergency Situations (MChS).
The document was approved on February 26 and came into effect on April 1, reports the Russian press, citing the BN Group company, which participated in the development of the studies together with VNIIPO MChS.
The new rules target sectional type multifamily residential buildings, with a height between 5 and 15 meters.
The regulation, titled “Multi-family residential buildings using wooden structures and wood-based materials”, establishes fire prevention measures at all stages – from design and construction to major repairs, reconstruction or change of building purpose.
According to the Ministry for Emergency Situations, the document establishes the normative basis for the “safe” development of multi-storey wooden buildings and for the implementation of modern technologies, while maintaining the priority of protecting the lives and health of citizens.
