The United States has the best missiles and bombs, but the worst strategy for exiting conflicts. Professor Robert Pape, who has “modeled” attacks on Iran over the past 20 years, has concluded that the USA is stuck in an “escalation trap” from which it cannot escape with just planes, bombs, and missiles.
Former advisor to President Obama, political scientist Robert Pape has experience in national and international security policies, with a focus on air power, political violence, social network propaganda, and terrorism. In a podcast already viewed by over half a million people, he explained where Donald Trump went wrong and what solutions might exist for the war in Iran to be reasonably concluded for both sides.
A professor at the University of Chicago, former air strategy advisor in the Obama Administration, and expert in escalation dynamics, Pape has been “modeling” the bombing of Iran since 2002, when the facilities at Natanz were merely “some holes in the ground”.
He spoke about the failure of American Intelligence: “Once you bomb, you lose access to the inspectors of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA)”. The result? A “Swiss cheese” of information that generates panic, he added.
The strength of the Iranians was underestimated
The Pope brought up the power of Iran and spoke about the underestimation of this country’s military force. The production of 55,000 precision drones, many of which have already been delivered to Russia, demonstrated an industrial capacity underestimated by American strategists.
Not at all surprising, especially since he was an advisor to a Democratic president, Pape criticized Trump’s decisions and argued that the current American leader made a serious mistake when he gave the green light to the offensive against Iran. Although he admitted that Tehran was in a position where it could have obtained its own nuclear weapon, the well-known political scientist believes that Washington should have continued to negotiate.
“What should President Trump have done? He should have returned to the JCPOA, to the Obama agreement,” Pape summarized everything.
