An issue with online payment systems caused chaos in Moscow on Friday. Online payment systems went down, ATMs stopped working, biometric data payment was impossible, and the metro card scanning system crashed.
Shops and gas stations asked customers to pay in cash for about an hour on Friday, reports realitatea.md. The Russian press suggests that the interruptions could have been caused by Roskomnadzor disconnections.
Forbes reported, citing two sources from the cybersecurity industry, that technical measures are incapable of handling “numerous blocking rules”.
Currently, Russia is making efforts to block several mobile applications, including WhatsApp and Telegram. The Kremlin is imposing on public employees, students, and citizens in general to use the MAX application, which is said to be controlled by the Russian special services.
