Tehran responds to Trump’s threats and demands financial compensation before allowing traffic in the Strait of Hormuz.
Mehdi Tabatabaei, the deputy for communications and information in the office of the Iranian president Pezeshkian, reacted harshly to the ultimatum issued by American President Donald Trump. The Iranian official clarified that the Strait of Hormuz, vital for the transport of a fifth of the world’s oil and liquefied natural gas, will only be reopened once Iran receives financial compensation for the damages caused by war.
“The Strait of Hormuz will only reopen when, under a new legal regime, the damages caused by the imposed war will be fully compensated from a portion of the transit fee revenues“, stated Tabatabaei, on Sunday, in a post on platform X. He accused Trump of initiating a “total war in the region“, according to CNN.
Trump’s Ultimatum, Postponed
The American president has once again postponed the deadline imposed on Iran for reopening the Strait of Hormuz. Initially, the ultimatum had been extended by ten days until April 6, and on Sunday Trump unleashed in a message of unprecedented violence: “Tuesday will be Power Plant Day and Bridge Day, all in one, in Iran. There will be nothing like it!!! Open the strait, you crazy bastards, or you will live in Hell – JUST WATCH! Praise be to Allah”, wrote the president of the USA, using direct and provocative expressions, leaving no room for interpretation.
Subsequently, President Donald Trump seems to have set a new deadline for Iran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, writing on social media Sunday afternoon: “Tuesday, 8:00 PM, East Coast time!”, without further details, which corresponds to Wednesday, 3:00 AM in Romania. At the same time, the American president stated in an interview for Fox News that there are “good chances” to conclude an agreement with Iran and hinted that the talks do not target the nuclear program, asserting that Tehran would have given up on developing nuclear weapons. “I will announce to you soon” when the war will end, Trump also said.
