The Ukrainian company Fire Point, known for the Flamingo cruise missile, is working on a revolutionary air defense system that could significantly reduce the cost of intercepting ballistic missiles.

The project, carried out with the participation of European partners, aims to launch the system by the end of 2027.

The co-founder and chief designer of Fire Point, Denis Știlerman, told Reuters that the main goal is to reduce the cost of intercepting a ballistic missile to under one million dollars, well below the current cost of American Patriot systems.

“If we succeed, it would be a radical change in air defense solutions,” emphasized Știlerman.

Fire Point awaits approval from the Ukrainian government for a $760 million investment, representing 30% of the company, from a Middle Eastern conglomerate valued at $2.5 billion.

The Ukrainian press has identified the investor as Edge Group, a defense company from the United Arab Emirates.

This investment would represent the first step in building a space launch terminal in the United Arab Emirates, with the aim of creating a constellation of European satellites in low orbit.

Știlerman explained that the favorable geographical position and climatic conditions allow for efficient space launches and mentioned the development of an internal solid propellant for satellites.
