Most voters in Hungary fear interference and fraud in the April 12th election, while the opposition led by Péter Magyar is ahead of Prime Minister Viktor Orbán’s party, according to a public opinion poll.

According to the research published on Saturday by the Hungarian institute Publicus, 79% of respondents believe that elections could be affected by interventions from external actors or possible manipulations by the current power.

The upcoming Sunday’s poll is presented by analysts as a major confrontation between opposing political directions, in which supporters of liberal democracy will clash with those of a more authoritarian model.

The opposition movement, coalesced around the Tisza party, led by Péter Magyar, is trying to put an end to the 16 years of rule by Viktor Orbán, a leader perceived by critics as being close to the Kremlin.

Publicus data indicates that two-thirds of voters believe that any irregularities would be generated by the governing party Fidesz, while only 15% suspect the Tisza party. At the same time, only 30% of respondents believe that the electoral process will be completely fair.

Another poll, conducted by the 21 Research Center, shows that Tisza is leading in voting intentions, with 56%, while Fidesz is credited with 37%.

Satirical campaign against Orban by the Two-Tailed Dog Party

In parallel, an atypical actor is making its place on the Hungarian political scene: the “Two-Tailed Dog Party”, a satirical formation that uses humor as a tool for political criticism against Viktor Orbán.

During the campaign, party members drew attention through unconventional actions, including the use of a bus decorated with striking visual elements and the distribution of promotional materials that ironically promise impossible benefits such as “free beer” and “eternal life”.

The party builds its message on the satire of the current government, including in its activities thematic games, parodies, and symbolic initiatives that criticize the perceived political cronyism and lack of transparency.
