The President of the USA, Donald Trump, stated that negotiations between the United States and Iran could resume in the coming days, following the failure of the first round held over the weekend. Trump suggested that the discussions could continue in Pakistan, where previous negotiations also took place.

“You should stay there, because something might happen in the next two days and we are inclined to go there for our negotiations with Iran,” the leader from the White House stated, in an interview given to the publication New York Post.

Trump praised the role played by the commander of the Pakistani army, Asim Munir, about whom he said is doing an “extraordinary job” in mediating the dialogue between Washington and Tehran.

“He is fantastic, therefore it is more likely that we will return there,” he added.

The first round of negotiations, held over the weekend in Pakistan, ended without result. Following this failure, Donald Trump announced the imposition of a naval blockade against Iran, which came into effect on Monday.

However, the measure was not completely effective, as two commercial ships departing from Iranian ports managed to transit the Strait of Hormuz, despite the imposed restrictions.

The weekend negotiations between the United States and Iran regarding Tehran’s nuclear program have stalled due to major differences of opinion related to uranium enrichment, reports Axios, citing sources.

During the discussions in Islamabad, American officials proposed that Iran accept a 20-year moratorium on uranium enrichment, a condition to which Tehran responded with a much shorter period, “a single digit,” sources close to the negotiations declared.
