The Speaker of the Iranian Parliament, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, ruled out on Wednesday a reopening of the Strait of Hormuz as long as the American blockade against Iranian ports is maintained, which he denounced as violating the armistice between the two countries.

“A complete ceasefire only makes sense if it is not violated by a naval blockade (…) The reopening of the Strait of Hormuz is impossible as long as the ceasefire is blatantly violated,” he wrote on platform X, after US President Donald Trump announced on Tuesday evening a unilateral extension of the armistice signed on April 8, reports Agerpres.

As retaliation for the war waged against it by the USA and Israel, Iran has effectively blocked the Strait of Hormuz, threatening to attack any ship associated with the USA, Israel, and their allies.

Iran announced on Wednesday that it attacked and immobilized or seized three commercial ships that tried to cross the strait without its authorization.

The American President, Donald Trump, has in turn imposed a blockade on Iranian ports, following the failure of negotiations held on April 11 in Pakistan, while a new round of negotiations is expected.
