Google Company has signed an agreement with the Department of War for the use of its artificial intelligence models in classified projects, despite opposition expressed by some employees, according to a report published by The Information.

Under the agreement, military officials could use the company’s AI technology for “any legal governmental purpose”. Thus, Google joins other major players in the field, such as OpenAI and xAI, who have in turn concluded agreements with the Pentagon.

According to available information, in 2025, the US Department of War signed contracts worth up to 200 million dollars with several major companies in the field of artificial intelligence, including Google. A spokesperson for the Google Public Sector division stated that the new agreement represents an “extension” of an existing contract.

The decision comes shortly after over 500 artificial intelligence researchers within Alphabet Inc. signed an open letter addressed to CEO Sundar Pichai, asking the company to stop providing AI technology for the Pentagon’s secret projects.

In parallel, other companies in the sector have had different experiences in their relationship with American authorities. Anthropic, the developer of the chatbot Claude, quickly integrated its technology into military systems for data analysis and identification of potential targets. Subsequently, the collaboration was suspended after the company tried to introduce guarantees regarding the non-use of technology in mass surveillance or lethal autonomous weapons.
