The Federal Antimonopoly Service of Russia has issued several warnings to analysts due to public statements about possible price increases.

“Such forecasts can be perceived by market participants as an impulse for changing the prices of goods and can provoke an increase in demand from consumers”, the institution conveyed on Wednesday.

According to Reuters, among those targeted is the head of the analysis department of the investment company “Rikom-Trust”, Oleg Abelev, who commented in the press about a possible increase in food prices.

Similar warnings were issued also for the communication director of GIS Mining company and for the general director of “Alliance Trucks”, who had predicted fuel price increases.

FAS justified its decision by stating that “the coordinated actions of competing companies, which may lead to the establishment or maintenance of prices, show signs of violating competition protection legislation.”
