On Thursday, Russia accused Latvia of involvement in a Ukrainian drone attack on the Sankt Petersburg region. More precisely, the Ukrainian drones allegedly attempted to attack from Latvian airspace, according to the Russian Ministry of Defense, quoted by The Moscow Times. NATO launched two F-16 planes and two Rafales. Romania, Portugal, and France provide air policing for the Alliance in the Baltic region.

Thus, during the morning, Russian research units detected “a group of 6 drones” in Latvian airspace, “alongside two Rafale fighter jets and two F-16s”.

Currently, Romania – with F-16 planes – and France – with Rafale planes – ensure NATO’s air policing in the Baltic area, from the Siauliai base in Lithuania. Also, Portugal, also with F-16s, ensures air policing in the region from the Amari base, in Estonia.

The Romanian Air Forces published a video recording on Thursday featuring two F-16s and a Rafale, accompanied by the message “The mission continues”.

“Every takeoff means vigilance. Every mission means trust. Always on duty, the pilots and technical teams of the “Carpathian Vipers” detachment ensure the protection of allied airspace, demonstrating professionalism, quick response, and interoperability alongside international partners. Every takeoff sends a clear message: NATO’s sky remains secure”, is stated in a post published on the Facebook account of the Romanian Air Forces.
