The head of European diplomacy, Kaja Kallas, states that Estonia has had debates about May 9, but not about what should be celebrated, but about “why it cannot celebrate” Victory Day.

“I come from a country that had various communities and different celebrations of May 9th. The discussions we had – why can’t we celebrate May 9th as Victory Day, is that if after May 9th, when the war ended, Stalin had told us you are free, you can continue to live your freedom, independence, we would have also celebrated May 9th as Victory Day.”

“But because precisely from this day the atrocities for my country began, we cannot celebrate May 9th as Victory Day. I am glad that we all have a different past, but we need to focus on our common future and that is what Europe Day means”, declared the Vice-President of the European Commission, Kaja Kallas, quoted by newsmaker.md

The President of Moldova, Maia Sandu, stated that on May 9th, she commemorates the sacrifice of those who lost their lives in war and celebrates peace.
