The residents of the Berezovo district, near Irkutsk, have appealed to leader Xi Jinping to build them a school. They claim that they have approached the Russian administration several times, but have been ignored.
In Berezovo, there are about 2000 children. They have to travel approximately 12 kilometers to school, in neighboring localities, according to Meduza. The journey takes up to 40 minutes, depending on traffic conditions, but some parts of the roads are in a deplorable state.
The Russian authorities promise the construction of a school in Berezovo from 2021, the construction began in 2025, and in 2026 the works were halted, as funds for the works were not included in the regional budget for the following years. People also say that the construction of a kindergarten was stopped, for the same reasons.
The residents reported that they have repeatedly appealed to the presidential administration, but their complaints were forwarded to the local authorities, who then told them that there is no money.
“We are ready to start learning Chinese, because we truly believe it is essential for us. The active development of cultural ties with China is the only possible way for us to grow in a situation where our country’s priorities lie somewhere in the field of building new subway stations in Moscow and new schools in Tajikistan,” the locals declared.
The appeal to Xi is made in the context of the Russian leader’s visit to Beijing. The Russian presidential administration announced that Putin has reached several agreements with his Chinese counterpart.
