Russia has no say in the European path of the Republic of Moldova, but that does not mean it does not try to intervene in the process. The statement was made by the European Commissioner for Enlargement, Marta Kos, during a press conference held in Chisinau.
The official stated that Moldova has become a security provider in the region and that European countries have something to learn from us, notes deschide.md. The Brussels official also revealed that Moldova’s experience is now being used by Armenia and will be adopted by Montenegro to combat Kremlin’s interference.
“Russia has no say in the European path of the Republic of Moldova. That doesn’t mean it doesn’t try to interfere in this process, but you have been successful in countering the interventions. The geopolitical dimension of the accession process is becoming increasingly important. We can only ensure Europe’s security if we also involve the neighboring countries. Therefore, we must work hand in hand with the Republic of Moldova to strengthen European security,” declared Marta Kos.
Marta Kos also mentioned that a European has noted that Moldova maintains last year’s pace in implementing the necessary reforms for integration into the EU, and this makes it possible to open the first negotiation cluster. The event is expected to take place in mid-June.
