After Israel assassinated Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, using hacked traffic surveillance cameras to monitor the official’s movements and his guard, the Kremlin went into a panic.

The Russian intelligence services have shut down the cameras of a special surveillance system, used to protect Vladimir Putin and his closest advisors, notes The Moscow Times.

According to sources close to the Kremlin’s security, the system was only reactivated after specialists isolated it from the internet and conducted tests to prevent information leaks.

Despite these precautions, a Ukrainian hacker told the Financial Times that all surveillance cameras in Moscow and around the Kremlin are “still operational and are regularly hacked”. However, he did not specify whether information from the devices reaches Kiev.
