The authorities, energy sector operators, and European partners have simulated various crisis scenarios in Chisinau that could affect the natural gas supply of the Republic of Moldova. The purpose of the “Table Top” exercise was to test the response and coordination capacity in the event of major problems in the gas sector.

At the simulation, representatives of public institutions, system operators, suppliers, traders and relevant consumers participated, along with experts from the Energy Community Secretariat and European partners, writes bani.md.

Within the exercise, situations such as limiting gas delivery routes, unavailability of important sources or infrastructures, increased consumption under severe weather conditions, and the implementation of measures provided in emergency plans were analyzed.

The participants tested the response procedures established in national and European legislation, including communication between institutions, declaring crisis levels, market monitoring and protecting vulnerable consumers.

The State Secretary of the Ministry of Energy, Vitalie Mîța, stated that the exercise is important for strengthening the response capacity of institutions in the context of regional challenges.

“The Republic of Moldova has made significant strides in energy security, and this involves not only diversified infrastructure and sources, but also institutions prepared to respond quickly and coordinated in exceptional situations,” said the official.

The exercise was conducted in the context of the Republic of Moldova aligning with the European Union standards on natural gas supply security and provided authorities with the opportunity to verify, in a practical framework, the functionality of mechanisms for preventing and managing potential energy crises.
