The spokesperson for the Russian Federation’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Maria Zaharova, stated on Wednesday that with the unification with Romania, the Republic of Moldova will cease to exist.
The official also said that, in his opinion, “the wise people of Moldova will make a clear and sovereign choice if the question of unification with Romania is put into practice.”
Regarding Gagauzia and Transnistria, according to the Russian official, the regions would not want to unite with Romania. Zaharova states that the administrations in these areas “have other foreign policy priorities” and would see Russia as “a protector”, according to hotnews.ro.
“If Moldova is included in the composition of Romania, it will cease to exist. Because even now, everyone is considered Romanian. What Moldova will you be able to talk about in the case of its inclusion in Romania? This word will be eliminated from documents, books and manuals. (…) There are all reasons to believe that the wise Moldovan people will make a clear and sovereign choice in case the issue of unification with Romania is put into practice,” declared Maria Zaharova.
