The French car manufacturer Renault and the French defense group Thales announced on Tuesday a partnership for the development and mass production of the kamikaze drone Toutatis, with a target of 1,000 units per month in 2027, reports AFP.
The objective is to create a French industry capable of mass-producing this type of weaponry, which has become essential in current conflicts, the two companies stated in a joint press release. R
Renault will contribute with its mass production processes with short delivery terms, while Thales will provide military technology, including remotely operated ammunition and secure communications, notes AFP, quoted by Agerpres.
“We realized that, if we want to produce quickly in large quantities, industrial companies were probably better positioned than Thales,” explained the defense group director, Patrice Caine, at the Eurosatory defense exhibition, which brings together over 2,600 exhibitors near Paris, between June 15 and 19.
“We quickly turned towards the Renault Group, as the two companies are perfectly complementary,” added the Thales director. “Renault brings the ability to create products at lower costs than those of a defense company and to manufacture on a large scale,” stated the CEO of the car manufacturer, Francois Provost.
