The Kremlin’s foreign policy adviser, Yuri Ushakov, estimated on Thursday that European leaders probably instilled harmful ideas in American President Donald Trump at the G7 Summit held this week, but Russia is counting on the fact that the US president is a strong leader in control of his own ideas, reports Reuters, quoted by Agerpres.

At the G7 summit, held in the French town of Evian, Trump said that Russia should make peace with Ukraine, a statement made after he had a “very good” meeting on Tuesday with Ukrainian President Volodimir Zelenski. These comments sparked cautious optimism among G7 leaders that a peace agreement between Russia and Ukraine could be reached.

Furthermore, the leaders participating in the summit announced that they have agreed to increase both military aid for Ukraine and pressure on Russia through new sanctions.

But the Kremlin’s foreign policy adviser, Yuri Ushakov, stated on Thursday that he believes Trump was misinformed at this summit about the actual situation in Ukraine and that Moscow is still awaiting a visit from Trump’s emissaries, Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, although a date for this has not yet been set.

“We can assume that harmful ideas were instilled in Trump (…) We realize that Europeans are exerting an influence here that is not helpful,” Ushakov noted on Russian state television.
