A metro station in Saint Petersburg, currently under renovation, will feature an unusual element in its decor: symbols of Wehrmacht military units will be integrated into the floor of the main lobby.

The announcement was made by the city’s governor, Aleksandr Beglov. According to him, the floor will be made of metal plates, including those made from the melted armor of German military equipment found on the former battlefields near Leningrad.

On some of these plates will be applied the insignia of Wehrmacht units, which will be placed before and after turnstiles, so that passengers may step on them both upon entry and exit.

The “Park Pobedi” station, currently closed for reconstruction, will also receive other military-themed elements. At the surface, a memorial panel dedicated to the Second World War, the Battle for Leningrad, and the city’s blockade will be installed.

The interior will be adorned with mosaics depicting the Victory Parade in Leningrad, as well as the inscription “No one is forgotten, nothing is forgotten”. In the lower vestibule, medallions with bas-reliefs of military commanders and panels with historical photographs from the war period will appear.
