EU government ministers, gathered Thursday for a long day of discussions about climate change policies, were surprised by one of the participants, aged just three months.
The Swedish Minister of Climate, Romina Pourmokhtari, brought her son, Adam, to the EU Council meeting in Luxembourg, to highlight the benefits of parental leave policies, which do not force women to choose between work and family responsibilities.
“I wanted to show that it is possible not to have to make this choice. Which, of course, also implies having a partner who is not a dinosaur, but quite modern and willing to accompany you,” Pourmokhtari declared.
An official of the EU Council has confirmed that this is the first time a baby has attended a meeting of EU ministers, reports news.ro.
Pourmokhtari, aged 30, was the youngest minister in Sweden’s history when she took office in 2022. She has just returned from parental leave, while her husband is on leave until the elections in Sweden in September and traveled with her to Luxembourg to take care of Adam.
