The Polish authorities have expelled 11 individuals suspected of participating in a campaign supported by Russia to influence Ukrainian refugees.

The security services in Poland have expelled nine Ukrainian citizens and two Belarusians, suspected of using funds originating from Russia to recruit Ukrainian refugees for the purpose of organizing protests against the government in Kiev on Polish territory, announced on Monday the Internal Security Agency (ABW), as quoted by Reuters.

Poland has long accused Russia and its ally Belarus of conducting a hybrid warfare campaign, which includes acts of sabotage, cyber attacks, and disinformation campaigns, following the triggering of the large-scale Russian invasion in Ukraine, in 2022. Moscow has repeatedly rejected these accusations.

“The organizers aimed to gradually influence the Ukrainian refugee community in Poland and use this group to promote political messages,” ABW conveyed in a statement.

The institution clarified that, to provoke protests, sensitive subjects were exploited, such as the corruption scandals that affected the administration of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, as well as other topics from Ukraine’s domestic politics.
