The Chairwoman of the Federation Council, Valentina Matvienko, believes that the age limit of 35 for the status of “young” is optimal and says that by this age, Russians should have started a family, have at least three children, and have achieved professional success.
The statement was made during a meeting with the participants of the cultural and educational project “Memory Train”.
“By the age of 35, or even earlier, you should have started a family, have at least three children, and have achieved success in your profession,” Matvienko stated.
The official stated that she is open to a debate regarding the redefinition of the age of youth, but only if this change will be desired by the youth themselves.
In recent years, Valentina Matvienko has launched several initiatives to stimulate birth rates, including granting a million rubles to employees who become parents, introducing demographic indicators for state companies, and urging Russian families to have up to five children. These statements come against the backdrop of the ongoing decline in birth rates in Russia.
