On Wednesday, Russia introduced a temporary ban on diesel exports, in an attempt to stabilize the domestic fuel market, which has been affected by repeated drone attacks launched by Ukraine on oil refineries.

The measure will be in effect until July 31 and applies also to diesel producers. Deliveries made under already existing governmental agreements, such as the one with Mongolia, are exempted, writes Reuters.

Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak stated, during a government meeting led by Vladimir Putin, that the fuel supply situation remains difficult.

“Today, the ban on diesel exports was introduced, and this measure will allow for the increase of deliveries to the domestic market“, said Novak. He added that Russia will start importing fuel as early as July.

The Ukrainian attacks have affected the supply

According to Reuters, drivers in several regions of Russia are facing queues of several hours at gas stations, due to the reduction in diesel and gasoline supplies following attacks on Russian energy infrastructure.

In turn, Vladimir Putin accused Ukraine of trying to damage Russia’s economy and create panic in society.

“The most important thing is that they are trying to create a sense of anxiety in society. We all understand that this goal is impossible to achieve,” stated the Kremlin leader.

The authorities in Kiev maintain that the attacks on Russian oil facilities aim to reduce Moscow’s capacity to continue the war and to compel it to accept peace negotiations.
