Russian opposition figure Garry Kasparov stated that the President of China, Xi Jinping, would be one of the main factors preventing Russian leader Vladimir Putin from using nuclear weapons.
According to Dialog, Garry Kasparov answered the question of whether Putin would have risked attacking Ukraine if it had possessed nuclear weapons.
“Of course not. What is there to discuss? The issue is that it wouldn’t have been so easy for Ukraine to keep these weapons. For the rather poor budget at the time, they represented quite large financial obligations.”
The former great champion expressed, in an interview given to Ivan Tiutrin on YouTube, why the disintegration of Russia should not be viewed as a nuclear threat.
“Why have we been discussing the possibility of Russia using nuclear weapons in recent years? A maniac is at the helm of Russia. Everyone says that such a probability exists.“
Perhaps only Xi Jinping keeps him in check. Therefore, the alternative to this potential chaos is the endless continuation of war and the increasing likelihood that the maniac will eventually press the button, regardless of what Xi Jinping says. This probability exists and is increasing, Kasparov stated.
Subsequently, the Russian opponent recalled a historical precedent that he believes should be repeated.
