The Fidesz party, led by former Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, claims that the prosecutors showed up unannounced at the center hosting the party’s servers, intending to seize the entire communication system and the party’s database.

Fidesz has labeled the intervention as an escalation of “authoritarianism” and maintains that such an action has not taken place in Hungary since the fall of the communist regime.

“The authoritarian regime has escalated to a new level today. Prosecutors showed up unannounced at the center hosting the Fidesz servers, intending to seize the entire communication system and the party’s databases. Such a thing has not happened in Hungary since 1990, since the end of communism“, Fidesz reported.

Viktor Orbán’s formation accuses the Tisza Party of trying to hinder the operation of Fidesz through legal means, after, the party claims, it failed to eliminate it through political means.

“The Tisza Party’s plan to eliminate Fidesz and, along with it, resistance to authoritarianism through political means has failed. Therefore, the Tisza Party is now trying to hinder the operation of Fidesz through legal means“, the message states.

Fidesz announced today that it will not yield “neither to political threats, nor to legal ones” and that it will oppose the “violent authoritarianism of the Tisza Party“.

Péter Magyar: “We Await the Prosecutor’s Office Information”

Hungarian Prime Minister Péter Magyar has responded to the information announced by Fidesz and stated that he is awaiting explanations from the Prosecutor’s Office regarding the actions of the investigators.

“According to the information provided by Fidesz itself, investigators today conducted a search and made seizures in connection with Viktor Orbán’s party servers. We await the Prosecutor’s Office information!“, Péter Magyar conveyed.
