Kyrgyzstan will build a mini oil refinery worth 25 million dollars. The plant will be located in the south of the country.

The authorities are thus trying to stimulate domestic fuel production and reduce dependence on imports, against the backdrop of decreasing supplies from Russia. The refinery will have an annual capacity of 450,000 tons.

The factory will produce gasoline and diesel that meet environmental standards, bitumen and motor oils. The first phase of construction is expected to be completed in the fall of 2026.

Kyrgyzstan relies on gasoline imports from Russia for 90%, reports hotnews.ro.

Currently, Russia has been facing fuel shortages since the end of May, due to production cuts caused by attacks on its refineries carried out by Ukrainian drones.

At the end of June, the Kyrgyzstan Petroleum Traders Association reported a gasoline shortage, caused by the problems Russia is facing and the seasonal increase in demand.

In addition to the refinery construction, Kyrgyzstan aims to increase the level of fuel supply from China and Belarus, and a part of the oil will be refined in Uzbekistan.
