Russian authorities have issued an arrest warrant for the new commander of the Ukrainian armed forces, Major General Mihailo Drapatîi, according to state media institutions, picked up by the Moscow Times.

Drapatîi’s name appears in the database of persons under surveillance of the Russian Ministry of the Interior, without explicitly specifying the new charges brought against him, according to the RIA Novosti news agency. The Investigative Committee of Russia, the country’s main investigative authority, had previously brought charges against Drapatîi in 2023, targeting the death of 154 people in eastern Ukraine, during the period when he was in command (between 2017 and 2019).

The arrest warrant was issued just a few hours after Ukrainian President Volodimir Zelenski dismissed General Oleksandr Sîrski and appointed Drapatîi in his place.

The reshuffling of the leadership occurred following days of public street protests, triggered by the previous removal of Mihailo Fedorov from the position of Minister of Defense.
