Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk called on Tuesday for an end to xenophobic attacks against Ukrainians in Poland, after a series of hate-motivated crimes came to the forefront of the press in recent weeks, against the backdrop of escalating tensions between Warsaw and Kiev, reports Reuters.
Tusk launched his appeal on Tuesday after a widely distributed video on social networks showed three Poles assaulting a Ukrainian man and his girlfriend in the city of Wrocław on Sunday, apparently following a misunderstanding in a store. Two of the aggressors were arrested on Monday.
“Anyone who commits such vile acts is directly acting against the interests of Poland,” Tusk declared during a government meeting. “You are working against Poland, in favor of Russia and in favor of Polish and Ukrainian nationalism,” he continued.
