North Korea has begun deploying a missile unit in western Russia, which could participate in attacks on Ukraine. According to the Main Directorate of Military Intelligence (GUR) in Ukraine, Moscow expects to receive 120 North Korean ballistic missiles and six launchers.
The information was made public by the Reuters agency, quoting Andrii Cerniak, a representative of the GUR.
According to the Ukrainian official, the unit, composed of about 90 North Korean soldiers, is to be deployed in the Voronezh region, as part of the 112th Missile Brigade of the Russian army. The exact number of missiles and deployment details will be determined during high-level negotiations between Moscow and Pyongyang, scheduled for next month.
Cerniak also stated that the regime in Pyongyang has already delivered a new batch of 40 ballistic missiles KN-23 and KN-24 to Russia, along with military personnel. It is not yet clear what roles the North Korean military will have in the missile operations carried out by the Russian army.
According to the GUR representative, Russia used, for the first time since August 2025, two North Korean ballistic missiles against Ukraine last week. These are believed to come from the latest batch of 40 missiles delivered by North Korea.
The Ukrainian authorities announced that one of these missiles destroyed a home in the village of Radušne, near Krivoi Rog, causing the death of at least five members of the same family.
Reuters specifies that it could not independently verify the information presented by Andrii Cerniak. Until the publication of the material, the Russian Ministry of Defense and the North Korean representation at the UN did not respond to the agency’s requests.
Meanwhile, NK News analysts have reported that North Korean authorities have covered a new building within the “February 11” factory in Hamhung, where Hwasong-11 ballistic missiles destined for Russia are manufactured, with a layer of soil. According to experts, the measure could serve to protect the facility against potential air strikes.
