The classified strategy sets out the nuclear options that may be available to the President of the United States in crisis situations and is developed by defense policy officials within the Pentagon, according to NBC News.
The new doctrine, presented by Elbridge Colby
According to the Express publication, the new strategy is coordinated by Elbridge Colby, an official from the Department of Defense, known for his positions on adapting the American nuclear doctrine to new global threats.
Colby is expected to participate in a military event in Nebraska on Wednesday, where he is set to present his vision on the new strategy.
Additionally, the American press writes that he will make a visit to the United States Strategic Command (STRATCOM), the structure that coordinates American nuclear forces, including intercontinental ballistic missiles, strategic bombers, and nuclear submarines.
According to information published in the press, the plan updates the nuclear response options available to the US president and aims to discourage an adversary from taking advantage of a conventional conflict to escalate the situation to their own benefit.
